Herstmonceux Castle Grounds & Gardens
On Friday 22nd June East Sussex held their Summer Walk around Herstmonceux Castle Grounds and Gardens, organised by Maureen Johnson.
It was a beautiful summer day when 27members, husbands, friends, and family plus three dogs, met in the beautiful countryside of East Sussex.
The 15th Century moated castle is set within 300 acres of carefully managed woodland. There are eight themed and formal gardens, and the magnificent Chestnut Tree Walk.
We all enjoyed the stroll through the shady Woodland Walk stopping off at The Folly and garden for a photo opportunity and admired the magnificent sweet chestnut trees, one of which dated back to 1700. A stroll through the gardens to smell the beautiful flowers followed with time to admire the Giant Sundial, before some of the party went on to take the tour of the Castle whilst others chose to have a most welcome lunch in the Chestnuts Tea Room.
A total of £35 was collected during the walk for the two SECKFA Charities Crohn’s & Colitis U.K. and Lupus U.K.
